Distressed Style

| Wearing Aritzia top | Hollister shorts | ShoeMint shoes | Lia Sophia earrings | Silpada rings | ASOS bracelets |

Cut offs are ever-present during the warmer months, and for good reason—whether paired with fancy floral blouses or preppy striped tops, these classic shorts are a go-to.  Destroyed denim shorts are where it's at right now – it’s a cheap, easy and comfortable trend.  Ripped, studded, torn, bleached, dyed - it seems you don't have to scroll very far on instagram to see a legion of denim and stud clad bums. It seems everyone is trying their hand at making their own unique pair, and there really isn't any reason to hold back. I mean, who doesn't have an old pair of jeans in their cupboard that need some love?

Cut offs are completely wearable for daytime look, whether it’s a casual, laid-back look or polished and put together. You just have to know what to pair them with.  I went for polished so I paired mine with a lace tank from Aritzia, cork wedges, and tons of bracelets and jewels.  Whether you buy a pair of already distressed shorts or cut off an old pair of levies or colored skinnies, embrace this care-free style for the remaining warm days.

| Wearing J Crew sweater | Aritzia shorts | Steve Madden pumps | Jewelmint rings |

This past year, I have made it my goal to step out of my dark color rut. I seem to wear a lot of black, navy and charcoal and have managed to introduce some radiant colors and prints into my wardrobe.  It’s really easy to get stuck in a dark furrow – the colors are slimming and go with everything.  Who doesn’t love to pair black with black!! After stepping outside that color comfort zone I have never felt more confident and bright and I get constant compliments when I wear radiant blues, pastel purples and neon oranges.

Hot pink is a huge trend this summer.  I was on the hunt for the perfect pink sweater for a few months and stumbled upon this one at J Crew.  It is knit, but the material is a light-weight cotton and I have worn it twice this summer and both times was a comfortable temperature.  I paired my sweater with a short pair of lace knickers from Aritzia and a huge heel, obviously!  This look is unbelievably comfortable but I still feel put together and somewhat chic.

To Romp or Not to Romp...

| Wearing Material Girl jumper | Steve Madden booties | Nixon watch | Forever 21 necklace | Stella & Dot rings |

The Romper….Some love ‘em, some hate ‘em.

I am indifferent.

I saw this one last season and thought it was cute.  It’s just so damn versatile.  It's as easy to wear to the beach as it is to wear to a dinner out - the romper is like a great dress with a playful and comfy feel. It helps to stick with flowy fabrics for day, then amp it up with more structured looks for night.  This being said, some are absolutely atrocious and you have to pick the right style for your body.  If you have a tummy avoid anything with too bold of a pattern in light colors… otherwise it can look like a pair of dumpy pajamas.

It’s fun! While it may take a little courage to wear a romper, you can’t deny the individual twist it gives a look. First timer? Pick one that looks like a separate shirt with shorts and save yourself the trouble of putting an outfit together! Or incorporate some of the season’s hottest patterns and prints into your look, with striped, floral and tribal one-pieces. Pair it with a statement necklace and your favorite shades for a pulled-together day look or dress it up with wedge sandals and drop earrings  for a night out. You will  thank me when it’s 100 degrees outside.  If you aren’t sure, try a dark color with a lot of flashy accessories and shoes to distract from the onesie.

Pretty Pastels

| Wearing J Crew blouse | Urban Outfitters shorts | Calvin Klein tights | ASOS shoes | Stella & Dot bracelet | Jewelmint rings | Michael Kors watch |

If one side of the color trend spectrum for 2012 was in-your-face brights and graphic prints, the other side is something much more pretty, subtle, and sweet: pastels.  I love pastels – especially this light purple J Crew silk blouse. Girly girls, this trend and color is totally for you. No color feels more summer-evening appropriate then the girly pop of pastels. Blush, peach, powder blue, rose, mint and lavender are the leading hues as of late.

You don’t have to pastel yourself from head to toe either - a fabulous mint heel or a lavender blazer is all you need to brighten up your wardrobe this summer. I paired this light blouse with a pair high wasted linen shorts from American Apparel.  I kept it ultra conservative for the office by pairing tights and black heels – it’s okay, I work in an artic office…. I can literally see my breath the A/C is cranked so high. When it came to accessories I turned to my JewelMint Sabor Tooth ring and my wardrobe staple - a Michael Kors watch.

Style Tip: Pair your preferred pastels with white and cream separates and accessories to make the soft shades pop. Don't be afraid to layer. The girly hues shine even brighter when they're styled together!
